Charlie McKenzie: ASHRAE Scotland Section President

Charlie McKenzie, Regional Development Manager for Bouygues Energies and Services Contracting in Scotland and is the sales and development lead for Scotland. Charlie has extensive experience of building services design and co-ordination of building design and construction, and particularly in view of critical and specialist environments.

With over 20 years’ experience, Charlie has operated as a site based Project Manager, Consultant, Technical Design Manager and Design Co-ordinator through to his current Technical Sales and Development role giving him an invaluable perspective of the of traditional Client / Consultant and Design and Build relationships alongside the construction implementation, commissioning, validation and maintenance lifecycle.

Alongside being the current ASHRAE Scotland Section President, Charlie is a Chartered Engineer, Fellow of CIBSE and an active member of the CIBSE Scotland Committee. He is also a CIBSE Accredited Low Carbon Consultant, Low Carbon Energy Assessor, Air Conditioning Inspector and ESOS Lead Assessor which provides an invaluable insight into Energy Efficiency innovations and regulatory compliance and he is also an Executive MBA Court Medal winner which supports business strategy.

Jeffrey Ogle: ASHRAE Scotland Section PresidentElect/Vice President

Jeffrey is a mechanical specifications engineer specializing in heat pump, ventilation and environmental design. His interest are involved in advancing technical knowledge of complicated HVAC systems and incorporating new technologies to achieve thermal comfort with unconventional strategies. Jeffrey worked in construction installing and servicing HVAC equipment for over a decade before going back to university working towards his goal of becoming a mechanical engineer. After leaving school he worked for a design build contractor in San Diego, California designing mostly water and air sourced heat pump systems, later he joined a consultant firm and worked with a variety of systems including VRF, VAV, splits, packaged, DOAS, etc. Approximately a year ago Jeffrey moved from San Diego, California to Perth, Scotland and has continued his work with the city of Edinburgh council as an engineer in the capital projects team, most recently he has taken a role within LG UK air conditioning as a specifications engineer providing CPDs, design guidance and equipment selections.

Aizaz Samual: ASHRAE Scotland Section Secretary

Aizaz is a mechanical engineer with special interest in energy systems. His research interest lies in improvement of environmental conditions within buildings. He is involved in development and delivery of CPD coursework for industry, government and academic partners. His research involvement in application of dynamic simulation for appraisal of energy systems spans the past 17 years with focus on appraisal of indoor air quality, environmental comfort, energy efficiency and emissions reduction. He has experience in modelling and monitoring of thermal processes within buildings and associated energy systems including technologies such as advanced electrical storage systems, renewable energy, tri-generation, heat pumps, wet central heating systems and combined heat and power systems.

Duan Wu: ASHRAE Scotland Section Treasurer

DuanWu (treasurer) is a HVACS research engineer at Mitsubishi Electric R&D Centre Europe B.V. – UK Branch (MERCE-UK). His main focus is on researching and developing solutions for improving system efficiency of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems (HVACS). In his current role, Duan provides detailed guidance for development of future sustainable energy systems for Europe. His research interests include: advanced control for HVAC systems; heat pump system integration; heat exchanger optimization, two phase flow application, chip cooling and data centre thermal management, etc.

Duan holds a B.E in HVAC Engineering and an M.E. in Refrigeration Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL). Duan has published 5 journal articles, 3 peer-reviewed conference papers, and also 4 patent applications.
